SWAGEP – EMPOWER

The SWAG Education Project – EMPOWER focuses on economic empowerment and skills development for adolescent girls and women in IDP (Internally Displaced Persons) camps in Abuja.

Displacement strips women of their livelihoods and independence. SWAGEP EMPOWER restores dignity by providing vocational training, business skills, and seed capital to start income-generating activities.

Key Activities

  • Vocational and entrepreneurship skills training — Tailoring, soap-making, bead-making, and other marketable skills
  • Provision of seed grants for small businesses — Financial support to launch and sustain micro-businesses
  • Record keeping and business sustainability workshops — Training women in financial literacy and business management
  • Linkage to financial services — Connecting women with savings groups and microfinance institutions
  • Ongoing mentorship and business support — Regular follow-up and mentoring for business growth

Impact

At the Wassa IDP Camp, SWAG empowered 110 women with seed grants and vocational skills. 85% of businesses started through this program are still operational, demonstrating the sustainability of our approach.
